QATAR: Casey Stoner triumphant in his first race with Honda, after winning the Australian GP beat the reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) and Dani Pedrosa’s (Honda). Already dominating trials on the same Losail circuit, Casey Stoner started the GP season well, unlike the French Randy de Puniet (Ducati Pramac), who was forced to abandon the race after a fall on the first.

Taking a more cautious approach than last year, when he started on pole position but dropped to sixth lap. Stoner and Pedrosa held back and let Lorenzo take the lead who  managed to hold off both Honda riders in the same lap and briefly led the race, just to show he is still the reigning world champion.

From the second lap, Lorenzo was taken by Stoner closely trailed by Pedrosa. The Spanish rider took the lead several laps, 7th to 12th, when Stoner then took the lead.Stoner led from the front, with Pedrosa close behind plus Lorenzo who fought all the way until four laps from the finish, when the world champion went inside to take second place to avoid a double for Honda.

In the chasing pack, another nice duel was between the Italian Andrea Dovizioso, Marco Simoncelli, on the other two Honda RC212V riders for 4th place. A little later, the new Yamaha teammate of Lorenzo, American Ben Spies, finally came to beat Valentino Rossi, the ninefold world champion for the 6th. The French racer Randy de Puniet was finished in the first round, due to a fault with the Ducati Pramac just after the start.
