Forget everything you have been told about dieting as scientists in the US have proven thats its all wrong.  This may come as a shock to many people across the world as well as the multi billion dollar dieting industry who have been getting it wrong.

A new study has revealed that dieting using the old formulas of working out how many calories you need to lose per day are outdated for the following reason.  None of the calorie calculations take into account the reduction in metabolism as body weight is lowered.  As body weight reduces through lower calorie intake, so does the rate in which food is burnt. Furthermore, the body weight plateaus after awhile when weight reduction exceeds 150 calories per day.

Additionally, many people get disheartened at this stage of the diet program and return to their old eating habits. For permanent weight loss the number of calories you should lose per day should be no more than the same number of calories in a cookie which is around 100 – 150 calories per day.

Dr Hall from US National Institutes of Health says the new model is designed to give more accurate predictions of weight loss as well as to help fellow health professionals tackle the current epidemic of obesity. National statistics now show that a third of the population in the United States are obese with more than half over weight.

Losing just 150 calories per day from dieting is going to mean that it will take a 3 years to lose just 10 lbs so adding exercise to the weight loss program should make it more realistic.  The calorie adjustment calculator is now available online at for anybody to use at http://bwsimulator.niddk.nih.gov
